Jehovah was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake: Jehovah was not in the earthquake.
And after the earthquake, a fire: Jehovah was not in the fire. And after the fire, a soft gentle voice. (1Kings 19:11-12)

How to Run the Race and {Day12}

{I have linked up with Five Minute Friday today. To write for five minutes on a certain topic. It is the first time I have linked up and I set the timer for 5 minutes, but I have to admit I had a couple distractions and then I ignored the timer when it beeped and finished my thought. So, I guess, I completely broke the rules. I extended this grace to myself, since it was my first time.}

Five Minute Friday

The word for today is: Race

When I first read the word, race, I immediately thought of Hebrews 12:1,2:
“ . . . and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

I have never been a long distance runner. I never will be. With my lung capacity of less then half of what it should have been I have always wondered what it would be like.

I ran the sprint runs in track and field. I would run to the end, to the finish line, completely winded.

But I am to run here, this life of faith, with endurance.

I am in a spot in my journey where it is more like a cross country run and there is a bend in the trail and I have no idea what is ahead. I cannot see what lies ahead, but I can look back at the many saints who have had to suffer many difficulties in life, who have fixed their eyes on Jesus and have endured to the end of the race, not in fear but by faith.

I am scared, but I can look away from fear to Jesus. The one who suffered more than I will ever know. And he suffered with joy for he looked to what would be accomplished!

I look to Him.

I may have to keep on getting back up as I stumble about, but as I run this race I have to keep on looking to the Goal. He is the author of my faith, He carries me through and He is the finisher of my faith. From the beginning to the end. I can only look to Him for He is my hope and confidence.

If I fix my eyes on the One who is the founder and perfecter of my faith I will not grow weary or fainthearted. Looking to Jesus leaves no room for fearing the path laid out for me.

  1. Congratulations on your first Five-Minute Friday! I am so glad I got to be the one to read it. I liked what you said about Jesus suffering with joy. That is so true!

    I'm excited to see another 31-Dayer, here too! Thanks for sharing your writing.

  2. This morning I prayed that God would ease your fear. What a tremendous race the Lord has given you to run, not for the faint of heart and though your heart valve may be weak, you are definately not faint of heart. God has made you strong. He has given you wisdom. I wonder of His purpose and the tremendous honor He must receive as you seek His face and point others to Him - and the tremendous joy you will feel at His words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Continuing to run this race with you - fixing eyes to the heavens instead of the entanglements of this world. Beautiful writing! The Lord has gifted you! It is exciting to see Him work through you.
