Jehovah was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake: Jehovah was not in the earthquake.
And after the earthquake, a fire: Jehovah was not in the fire. And after the fire, a soft gentle voice. (1Kings 19:11-12)

Come To Our Help ~ Words of Life ~ A Link-up

{Join us below for Words of Life Wednesdays with a link-up of your post.

{Also linking with Coffee For Your Heart}

Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord?

Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!
Why do you hide your face?
Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
our belly clings to the ground.
Rise up; come to our help!
Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!

She's stuck. Gone numb to the needs around her.
She wishes for the tears to come to water the dryness and barrenness of her heart
then she shoves them down when they threaten to flood her soul.

Dishes stack up in the sinks, laundry piles spill over in the halls
till her little one wonders where all her clean underwear is.

The list of to-dos would be endless if she cared to write them all down.
It's easier to pretend that there is nothing to do when you can't do them yourself.

What do these things matter anyway?
The world has gone mad.
Why should she care if the beds are made?

Rain breaks from heaven like unstoppable tears.
Thunder roars and lightening flashes across the sky like there is something
to pay attention to.
Something beckons her to look.
She turns her face toward the sky.
There are slivers of light;
Speckles of blue sky in the fast moving storm clouds.

Day after day she will wake up and notice that she did.
Her heart kept beating.
The storm rages on
the madness races on.
Day after day she will speak to her own soul.
Hope in God.

It appears in this world that He may be asleep.
That while she lays low in the dust
she must cry out for Him
to wake up.

to Rise up.

to Come and rescue us from ourselves.

To Redeem us from the darkness
for the sake of His steadfast love.

Nothing will separate her from His love.

It's in the slivers of light and speckles of blue sky:
The way her brother comes and empties the dishwasher,
and friends bend their knees, and pick up the phone
to boldly speak truth to her in her darkness,
the way her husband keeps on loving her,
and her sisters know the ache and cry for her,
and her sister-in-laws cook meals for her,
and her Mama comes and helps to get things in order,
and her Dad holds her,
and her children need her to laugh at the days to come.

It's in the snuggles, coos and smiles of her niece,
the belly laughter of her nephews,
the sweetness of watermelon, and maple syrup on waffles,
 and strawberry jam surprises,
the zucchini loaf, and cookies and spaghetti sauce
made lovingly by her nieces,
and Lincoln Logs villages her boy made in the living room,
and precious prayers with her daughter in the morning,
and the way he kisses her fast pulse on her neck at night,
and clean underwear for her baby girl on a new day.

It's the way the sunsets in their lives
and promises to rise again in their love.

Joy comes in the morning.

She looks back.
She remembers.
She speaks to her soul.

She may be stuck, but not forsaken.

God never slumbers or sleeps.

He will not let her go.

In the darkest of days,
He is Light.

In the hatred in the world,
He is Love.

In the brokenness in the world,
He is Peace.

In all things,
He is Sovereign.

Come to our help.

Make things right
and new
and beautiful.

Come, Lord Jesus
She cries with the saints who long for Him to

Come.

How To Have Perfect Vision ~ Words of Life Wednesdays ~ A Link-up

The young eye doctor, Dr Thompson, told me I have healthy eyes. He said I have almost perfect vision, but I could wear glasses to help me focus better and so my eyes don't grow weary. I need an aid to help me focus better. He didn't need to tell me that. I know that I grow weary when I focus on the wrong things.

I admit, I let the weights of this world distract me from the one to come.

I regret, I let the struggles of this earthly life steal the eternal weight of glory that is beyond all comparison.

And I must confess, I let the seen things of this temporary home cloud my vision of the unseen things that will last forever.

This is the way for me: when my focus is foggy, I loose my footing.

In my frailty, it is easily done.

In my weakness, it keeps me desperate.

In my human nature, it is my default.

As long as I look to the affliction, I miss seeing the amazing grace.

I look the wrong way and I grow weary.

Isn't that the way it is for all of us?

It matters what our vision is.

For those who have near-sighted vision get anxious to see what is to come on earth.

And those who have far-sighted vision get discouraged to see what is right now on earth.

But those who have perfect vision look clearly to the things that are unseen, things eternal.

Those who have eternal vision have the right focus.

Those who have perfect eternal vision don't lose heart.

It matters where we fix our eyes.

When we take our eyes off Jesus everything goes out of focus and we grow weary. He is our help. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

So, don't lose heart. Don't grow weary. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Don't let the afflictions of this life make us blind to the glory and the joy when we will be ushered into the presence of Jesus for eternity. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Right now, this momentary affliction is preparing us for more than we could ever imagine.

Stay focused.

Fix our eyes on the author and finisher of our faith.

Set our sight on things unseen.

It's the most perfect vision.

Declare His Glory ~ Words of Life Wednesday ~ A Link-up

"Sing to the LORD, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvellous works among all the peoples!

For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the LORD made the heavens.

Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength!

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
bring an offering, and come into his courts!

Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness;
tremble before him, all the earth!

Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
he will judge the peoples with equity.”

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it!"

May our words bring healing and hope to the hurting around us.

May the words we speak today bring honour to the Lord of heaven and earth.

And may the Lord God grant us mercy and forgive us when we are a

Today and forevermore may our words and lives declare His glory.

We Sing of His Steadfast Love that Endures Forever ~ Words of Life Wednesdays ~ A Link-up

{Join us below for Words of Life Wednesdays with a link-up of your post.

“Only let each person lead the life
that the Lord has assigned to him,
and to which God has called him.”
{1 Corinthinans 7:17}

To put it frankly, this is not the life I would have chosen for myself.

Is anyone really comfortable in the skin they are in? Can one truly be content in circumstances beyond control?

We are a people who like to take control? But we lose our footing and our faith is so small. And we realize we never really had much say in it all anyway.

The boy growing up without a father. The widow grieving her beloved taken much too early. The wife waking up to a nightmare of a trial she never would have ever dreamed. The husband holding on to hope when all appears to be hopeless. The mother who weeps for her child swollen with malnutrition. The loved one’s lives ended because planes are shot down.

This world wreaks havoc in our lives. We are the fallen people and we keep on falling.

We pack up clothes and kids like a can of sardines and drive to the Island with red-ribbon roads lined with pink and purple lupins and yellow buttercups, and the sapphire-blue ocean to celebrate life and to get a way from all of life’s uncertainties.

For forty years he’s been a wanderer in this world not his home, and no one can be sure of her days, so we mean to celebrate every moment to the fullest. We watch the tides and we dig for treasures, but there is no getting away from tragedy, and heartache, and loss, and death.

Not in this world.

But there is something greater.

We sing of it as we the wheels roll on and the kilometres click away and we get closer to the ocean.

Cause in this life, the one that I would not have chosen, really when I stop to consider all the good things God has graciously given, how can I not sing His praise.

“Oh, You’re rich in love and you’re slow to anger,

Your name is great and your heart is kind,

For all your goodness I will keep on singing.

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

The fallen ones who became the chosen ones who had faith in the One whose love never fails, they sang of it.

Of His goodness. His great wonders. In creation. In protection. In deliverance. And redemption.

Over and over they sing; giving thanks.

For His steadfast love endures forever.

The Good Shepherd leads us to quiet waters. He tends us lovingly. We stand in the setting sun and we see it all as grace upon grace. We wonder at His creation and we marvel at His goodness. We slow down and sing loud and stop to pick lupins and search for sea glass.

We open the window to the sea and open our eyes to really see.

Life ebbs and flows, tides of life rise and fall, eroding away hope, pulling down, but His love is as constant as the waves as it washes over me.

He is supreme over all and His steadfast love, His mercy never ends.

I don’t know why I have been given this life where I can sit before still waters and many mourn their loved ones shot down from the sky.

I can’t make sense of people dying from cancer and bombs, and babies crying from aching bellies and mother’s with broken hearts.

But this I know with all my heart.

The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever.

To Him I will give thanks with all the worshiping congregation. For He is good.

This is my ultimate purpose: that I would proclaim His excellencies.

It is the same as His ultimate goal: that His people would declare His praise.

Life may not always make sense, but this is how I always need to see it.

The life that I never would have chosen, but it is the one He has chosen for me.

In suffering we can endure and do good, we can follow in His steps because He is good and His steadfast love endures. {1 Peter 2:21}

To this we have been called.

And by His grace, for all eternity we will never stop singing this same song over and over and over.

Of His steadfast love that endures forever.

“Still my soul will sing your praise unending.

Ten thousand years and forevermore.”

The Food Faith Feeds On {Words of Life Wednesdays ~ A Link-up}

{Join us below for Words of Life Wednesdays with a link-up of your post.
We'd love to hear how God's Word has been nourishing you.}
{Also linking with Coffee For Your Heart}

"Where lies the secret strength of faith?
It lies in the food it feeds on:
for faith studies what the promise is—and emanation of divine grace, an overflowing of the great heart of God; and faith says, 'My God could not have given this promise, except from love and grace; therefore it is quite certain His Word shall be fulfilled.'
Then faith think[s], 'Who gave this promise?' It consider[s] not so much its greatness, as. 'Who is the author of it?' She remembers that it is God who cannot lie—God omnipotent, God immutable, and therefore conclude[s] that the promise must be fulfilled; and forward she advances in this firm conviction.
She remember[s] why the promise was given— namely, for 'God's glory', and she feels perfectly sure that God's glory is safe, that He will never stain His own escutcheon nor mar the lister of His own crown; and therefore the promise must and will stand.
Then faith consider[s] the amazing work of Christ as being clear proof of the Father's intention to fulfil His word. 'He that spared not his own Son, but freely delivered him up for us all, how share he not with him also freely give us all things?'
Moreover faith looks upon the past, for her battles have strengthened her and her victories have given her courage. She remembers that God never has failed her; nay, that He never did once fail an of His children. She recollect[s] times of great peril, when deliverance came; hours of awful need, when as her day her strength was found, and she cries, 'No, I never will be led to think that He can change and leave His servant now. Hitherto the Lord has helped me, and He will help me still.'
Thus faith views each promise in its connection with the promise-giver, and because she does so, can say with assurance. 'Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life!'"

Stealing Time Away and Spending it Well

There's a time to labour.

And a time to rest.

This is a time to rest.

*

We packed up our rusty old van and

drove miles to the sea all silver and sparkling

like diamonds.

We're resting, and celebrating life, and

breathing in blossoms and ocean breezes.

We're laughing, and loving and living full and

stealing time and spending it well.

{Words of Life Wednesdays link-up will return in a few short weeks.
 Thank you for extending grace.}
