Jehovah was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake: Jehovah was not in the earthquake.
And after the earthquake, a fire: Jehovah was not in the fire. And after the fire, a soft gentle voice. (1Kings 19:11-12)

Words of Life Wednesdays: The Word is our Life

Many times, more than I wish to count, I wonder why I plod along here offering words.

In a world where words are a dime a dozen, it seems as though I could be using my precious time on far greater pursuits.

I tap out letters to make sense of life, string words together to sift through thoughts, questions, doubts, share what's on my heart hoping it might stir another, but it's a struggle to let words spill on a white screen.

There are days I want to grip them tight and guard them safe from scrutinizing eyes.

But I keep releasing them for words are a lifeline.

The Word is my lifeline.

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all.
The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life."

"Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life"
{John 6:63,68}

The Jesus Project

My words may fall flat, but His Words never fail.

His Words awaken spiritual life and work in ways unseen and when the flesh is no help, His words pump lifeblood to resurrect the dead.

Right from the very beginning, as we've been reciting this week, was the Word. He was with God and the Word was God.

The Word is God.

My baby girl, she's not quite four and can't quite get her tongue around all the 'w's, but we practice the verse on Monday morning after breakfast and by lunch, it's a mouthful, but she's swallowed it down whole.

We cheer her on and the three year old gives us second servings of this daily bread.

This is what we need to feast on and saturate our appetites with: words of life.

The Word is our beginning and our end.

The Word is our bread, our life.

There is no where else to go.

The Word has the words of eternal life.

And we offer words back to the Word.

A Soft Gentle Voice

The Word of God is active and living. It is meant to pierce us to our very souls.

"Words of Life Wednesdays" is a link-up where we can share the life giving words of God's Word, helping us to listen more intently to the Soft Gentle Voice of the One who has called us to Himself.

What Words of Life encourage you today as you listen to the soft gentle voice in His written word?

When words fail you how does the Word fortify you?

If you don't have a blog, would you leave a comment below sharing the Words of Life, a passage from the Written Word, and how it has blessed you today?

  1. "My words may fall flat, but His Words never fail." Amen. I love this link up idea, Rebekah, as breathing in His words of life this year is my number one goal. I'm so enjoying my time everything morning with Him. I will do my best to join you every week as my hope is that what I'm reading is reflected more and more in my posts.
Such a cute video. She is adorable.
    Much love,

  2. He truly is the bread of life isn't he? And when everything else in life feels vacant and empty, it helps me remember where I find fulfillment. Lovely thoughts Rebekah.

  4. I love that the Word is "living and active. Sharper than a double edged sword"! As it enters our hearts it gives us the nourishment, the wisdom and the tools for living life with Him. Right now I'm memorizing verses on courage (my word for 2014) and even though memorizing takes work, I'm so excited to do this as I want His Word in me! Thanks for this great link-up...it's nice to meet you! (I found you through Simply Beth).

    Blessings, Joan

  5. Words--I love them. I'm so glad that God used "Word" as another way to describe Jesus. Your daughter is precious saying those sacred words. Keep them coming.
